Cannabis for Tourists in Los Angeles

Plan where you can legally consume before you shop. Bring valid government identification, verify the retailer and keep your travel plans separate from your cannabis purchase.

Bring identification and choose the right shop
Adult-use customers must be at least 21. Retailers inspect valid identification; a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport is the practical starting point. Check DCC’s official license search against the store address before making a trip.

Buy for your stay
The adult-use daily retail limits include 28.5 grams of non-concentrated cannabis and 8 grams of concentrate, including concentrate in products. Those are maximums, not a shopping target. Keep a purchase small enough for your plans and do not mistake a product’s total package weight for its concentrate content.

Ask your host first
A hotel booking is not permission to use cannabis. DCC advises checking the hotel or rental owner’s policy. A tobacco smoking area is not automatically a cannabis consumption area, and public use remains restricted.

Arrange transport before consuming
Do not drive impaired or use cannabis in an ordinary passenger vehicle. Carry purchases sealed or in the trunk, following California’s transport rules. Arrange a sober way back to your accommodation before making plans to consume.

LAX is not permission to fly with cannabis
LAX distinguishes Airport Police enforcement of California possession law from TSA screening under federal jurisdiction. That distinction is not clearance to take cannabis through security or onto a flight. DCC separately warns against taking cannabis across state lines. Do not plan to take your purchase home across a state border.
