Adults 21 and older can buy and possess cannabis within California’s limits. Legal possession does not make public consumption or impaired driving lawful.

Age and possession
For adult use, California permits up to 28.5 grams of cannabis that is not concentrated and up to 8 grams of concentrated cannabis, including concentrate contained in products. These are cannabis-weight limits, not a suggested dose. Medical rules are separate.

Buy from a licensed retailer
Check the actual shop and address in the DCC license search. Within the City of Los Angeles, a business also needs local DCR authorization. A Los Angeles-area postal address alone does not establish which local government regulates the premises.

Where you can use it
Public consumption is generally prohibited. California also bars smoking where tobacco smoking is prohibited; its definition includes vaping. Private-property permission matters, so confirm the rules for your accommodation before buying.

Driving and carrying a purchase
Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal. Do not consume while driving or riding in an ordinary passenger vehicle. DCC advises keeping cannabis in a sealed package or in the trunk; an open package in the passenger area is not a safe transport plan.
