Legal age

For adult use, you must be 21 years of age or older to purchase, possess, or consume cannabis in Nevada. Medical cannabis has separate rules. This applies to visitors as well as residents. A valid government-issued photo ID is required at every purchase.

Where to purchase

Buy from a licensed retailer. Nevada state-licensed dispensaries are regulated by the Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB); tribal businesses have a separate regulatory framework. Do not buy from unlicensed sellers.

Possession limits

Adults 21 and older may possess:

• Up to 2.5 ounces (70.875 grams) of usable cannabis
• Up to 1/4 ounce of concentrated cannabis

The CCB also specifies a limit of 7,087 mg THC for cannabis products. Mixed purchases and possession must stay within the combined legal limit; these are not separate allowances to add together. Possession above the legal limits can result in criminal penalties.

Public consumption

Public consumption of cannabis is prohibited under NRS 678D.310(3), subject to the licensed-lounge exception in subsection 10. The prohibition covers the Strip, sidewalks, parks, casino floors, and hotel common areas. NRS 678D.300 also limits the adult-use exemption from prosecution for use in public or exposed to public view.

Consuming cannabis in a vehicle — whether moving or stationary — is also prohibited.

The legal on-site option for visitors is a licensed consumption lounge. Nevada licenses dedicated facilities where adults 21+ can purchase and consume cannabis on-site.

Driving under the influence

Nevada’s DUI laws (NRS Chapter 484C) prohibit driving under the influence of cannabis. Cannabis impairs driving, and law enforcement can charge a DUI based on observed impairment as well as chemical testing. Do not drive after consuming cannabis.

Airports and travel

Adult-use cannabis may not be brought into Harry Reid International Airport (LAS): Clark County Code 20.04.090 prohibits marijuana on airport property. Separately, Nevada adult-use legalization does not authorize taking recreational cannabis on a flight or across state lines, even to another legal state. TSA screens for aviation security and refers suspected illegal activity to law enforcement; its medical-marijuana screening guidance is not permission to travel with adult-use cannabis. Federal property

Nevada adult-use legalization does not permit recreational cannabis possession or use on federal property, including national parks and federal buildings. Lake Mead National Recreation Area prohibits marijuana use. The Strip is largely in unincorporated Clark County; its public-consumption ban is not based on an assumed federal zone around casinos.

Taking cannabis home

Do not take Nevada adult-use cannabis across state lines, even between cannabis-legal states. State legalization does not authorize interstate transport under federal law. Plan any lawful use or disposal before departure; this guide does not address medical-product travel exceptions.
