Cannabis for Visitors to Seattle
What visitors need to know about Washington ID rules, licensed retailers, private consumption plans and leaving the state.

Visitors 21 and older may buy cannabis at Washington-licensed retailers with valid government ID. Plan a permitted private setting before you buy.

Prepare for the shop visit
You do not need to be a Washington resident for adult-use purchasing. Bring your valid government-issued identification. Use the Seattle directory to compare addresses, then check the retailer’s license and confirm hours directly when the directory has no verified schedule.

Buy only for your plans
Washington’s adult-use limits differ by product: 1 ounce usable cannabis, 16 ounces solid infused products, 72 ounces liquid infused products and 7 grams concentrate. A legal maximum is not a recommendation to buy that amount. Avoid treating a mixed basket as though every product has the same weight limit.

Your hotel is a separate decision
LCB advises checking accommodation policies in advance. Do not assume a room, balcony or outdoor smoking area allows cannabis. Public places and public view are restricted, so a sidewalk or park cannot substitute for permission at your lodging.

Keep the package closed on the way back
Washington’s public-use statute also covers opening packages in public view. In a vehicle, keep the purchase sealed and stowed in the trunk or an area inaccessible to occupants; do not use it during the trip. Arrange a sober journey if you later consume.

Do not take it across the border
LCB warns against transporting cannabis out of Washington, regardless of whether the destination has legalized it. Do not treat a domestic flight or another mode of travel as an exception. Check your departure plans before deciding what to buy.
