Washington adult-use cannabis is for adults 21 and older. Buy from a licensed retailer and keep consumption out of public places and public view.

Purchase and possession limits
LCB lists the following adult-use maximums. These are product-category weights or volumes, not suggested doses and not medical-patient limits.
- 1 ounce of usable cannabis (plant material).
- 16 ounces of solid cannabis-infused products.
- 72 ounces of liquid cannabis-infused products.
- 7 grams of cannabis concentrate.

Licensed shopping and ID
Washington residency is not required to buy adult-use cannabis. Customers must be 21 or older and show valid government-issued ID. Use LCB’s retailer resources or ask to see the LCB-issued license for the location you are visiting.

Public use and opening packages
RCW 69.50.445 prohibits both opening a cannabis package and consuming in a public place or in view of the general public. Seattle’s guidance applies this to streets, sidewalks and public parks. A purchase is not permission to open it outside the shop.

Vehicles and driving
Do not drive under the influence. RCW 46.61.745 restricts cannabis use and opened or partly used packages in vehicles on public highways, with a trunk or inaccessible-area exception for storage. The glove compartment does not qualify. For a straightforward transport plan, keep purchases sealed and in the trunk or an inaccessible area.

Before you leave Washington
LCB says cannabis may not be taken out of Washington, including to another place where it is legal. Plan purchases for your stay. Seattle’s local guidance does not change these statewide travel and consumption rules.
